Demi Lovato surprised fans by dropping a new single yesterday (Thursday, 21st June).
Title “Sober”, the emotional ballad reveals that the 25-year-old singer has relapsed after more than 6 years of sobriety. “My truth… #sober out now,” Lovato captioned her social media posts.
In the chorus, she sings, “Mama, I’m so sorry I’m not sober anymore / And Daddy please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor / To the ones who never left me / We’ve been down this road before I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore.”
The pop star also addresses her Lovatics with an apology. “I’m sorry for the fans I lost, who watched me fall again / I wanna be a role model, but I’m only human.” Rest assure the feisty songstress will seek help: “I’m sorry that I’m here again / I promise I’ll get help / It wasn’t my intention / I’m sorry to myself.”

“6 years ago, I was drinking vodka out of a Sprite bottle at 9 in the morning, throwing up in the car and I just remember thinking, ‘This is no longer cute. This is no longer fun. And I’m just like my dad.’ So I made changes in my life,” she revealed told an audience in Brooklyn back in March.
In her 2017 documentary, “Simply Complicated”, she said, “My dad was an addict and an alcoholic. Guess I always searched for what he found in drugs and alcohol because it fulfilled him.” The new visual is mostly a lyric video but it contains pictures of Lovato as a kid and adult.

There are no updates on her current sobriety status, so we’re guessing Lovato is letting the lyrics do the talking for now.
