Uh oh, it appears that “Deadpool 2” is facing a setback. Insiders have revealed that director Tim Miller has pulled out of the highly-anticipated sequel due to creative differences with star and producer Ryan Reynolds.
According to various sources, the split is amicable and apparently Miller is still on good terms with 20th Century Fox. Although Miller was reportedly never officially signed on to direct “Deadpool 2” yet, he was already involved in the screenwriting process.
So what was the issue at hand? Miller, who wanted to explore “bigger facets and more unusual realms of Deadpool’s place in the X-Men universe”, was going for a more stylised sequel. Reynolds, on the other hand, was pushing for a more “raunchy comedy and self-referential satirical sensibilities” that made this Merc With a Mouth so funny in the first place.
The 2 reportedly reached a breaking point when it came to the casting of Cable. Miller has been lobbying for the previously-rumoured candidate Kyle Chandler to play the time-traveling mutant, whereas Reynolds wanted to cast an older actor to portray Cable.
As Reynolds is the face of the franchise and also an active producer as well as story collaborator, we are not surprised to see the studio siding with the actor.
This news comes shortly after the shortlist of candidates who are vying to take on the role of Domino (who’s also Cable’s girlfriend) was announced.
