Dato’ Fazley Yaakob Clarifies That Farit Ismeth Emir Isn’t His Father-In-Law

In case y’all missed it, the industry was shocked by the unfortunate news of legendary newscaster Farit Ismeth Emir’s who passed away yesterday (Monday, 20th April). He was 66 years old.

Soon after the reports came to light, a number of fans started flooding family members of famed chef celebrity Dato’ Fazley Yaakob with prayers and condolences via WhatsApp – much to his surprise! Apparently, a lot of them thought that the RTM news anchor is the father to his wife Datin Azrene Soraya Abdul Aziz.

Pertama sekali, salam takziah buat keluarga Allahyarham Farid Ismeth Amir. Doa kami agar rohnya ditempatkan di kalangan orang2 yang beriman. Perlu juga saya perbetulkan tanggapan ramai orang yang turut menyampaikan ucapan takziah buat saya dan isteri saya @azrene_ahmad , kerana menyangkakan bahawa arwah adalah ayah kandung beliau. Mereka bukan bersaudara. Terlalu banyak ucapan takziah yang hadir di dalam whatsapp kami sekeluarga. Sebetulnya, ayah kandung Azrene masih lagi hidup dan sihat, dan namanya ialah Abdul Aziz Nong Chik. Yakni, wali yang menikahkan saya dan Azrene 14 tahun yang lalu. Saya mohon maaf buat keluarga arwah sekiranya post ini mengganggu emosi kalian semua. Niat saya hanya ini memperbetulkan kekeliruan yang berlaku #Alfatehah buat arwah dan takziah buat keluarganya. Buat sahabat saya @officialdjfuzz semoga kekal tabah menghadapi dugaan ini.

To avoid further confusion, the “Asmara Ini” singer took to his Instagram to clear the air on the matter. “First of all, condolences to family members of the late Farit Ismeth Emir. May his soul rest in peace. Additionally, I feel the need to clarify to everyone who had conveyed their wishes to me and my wife, thinking that the late Farid is her biological father. They are not related.” wrote Fazley.

The “MasterChef Selebriti” winner continued, “Azrene’s father is still alive and well. His name is Abdul Aziz Nong Chik. He was the wali (custodian) who was in charge of marrying me and Azrene 14 years ago. Apologies to all family members of the deceased if this post bothers all of you. My only intention is only to clear the air on the confusion.” 

He concluded the post by writing, “To my friend DJ Fuzz, I hope you can remain strong in facing the current obstacle.” For those who don’t know, the late Farid is the father to ex-Teh Tarik Crew member and renowned composer DJ Fuzz.

The late Farit died of lung cancer at Hospital Assunta, Petaling Jaya. The funeral was held at an Islamic cemetery located in Taman Meda, PJS 4, Petaling Jaya. R.I.P.
