Disney has announced their full slate of movies ahead of the highly anticipated D23 Expo 2017.
While Disney is scheduled to present all the latest from Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar at the annual expo, fans can first feast their eyes on an impressive list of new and changed releases.
Psst, fun fact: The “D23” in D23 Expo 2017 stands for “Hall D23”, the 6,800-seat venue located in Hall D of the Anaheim Convention Center in California. D23 Expo 2017 will take place 14th – 16h July 2017.
By now you would’ve already heard that Colin Trevorrow‘s (of “Jurassic World” fame) “Star Wars: Episode IX” has been given a new date: 24th May 2019.
Some fans are baffled by the earlier release (Lucasfilm has been scheduling its “Star Wars” movies for the holiday season in the recent years), claiming that it’s cutting to close to Marvel’s “Avengers 4” (Infinity Gauntlet?), which is supposed to premiere on 3rd May 2019. But here are a few things to consider:
- Blink and you’ll miss it but Disney also scheduled Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War” and Lucasfilm’s yet-to-be-titled Han Solo anthology film 2 weeks apart in 2018: 4th May 2018 and 25th May 2018 respectively.
- Episode I – VI of the “Star Wars” films were all released in May previously. Likely, this probably is about “Star Wars” going back to their spring/summer tradition. And hence, the yet-to-be-titled Han Solo anthology film’s release date, is also in May.
On top of it all, Disney owns both Lucasfilm and Marvel. Chances are they’re not really worried about competition between the 2 movies.
In other news, Disney also revealed the release dates for “Frozen 2” and the live-action remake of “The Lion King”, as well as adjusted the schedule for the untitled “Indiana Jones 5” (10th July 2020 instead of July 2019) and “Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2” (March 2018 t 21st November 2018).
