It’s been almost a decade since Rain (비) last held his solo concert in Malaysia. If you recall, the K-pop soloist previously brought The Squall World Tour here back in 2016. Last year, he was one of the headliners for the Borneo Sonic Music Festival alongside Jessi (제시).
As such, Malaysians have been anticipating seeing Rain on a much larger scale his “Still Raining” concert in Resorts World Genting was nothing short of a breathtaking experience, blending powerful performances with a captivating visual spectacle that left fans in awe.
Held at the iconic Arena of Stars, the venue buzzed with palpable excitement as fans eagerly awaited the Korean pop sensation. Rain, known for his incredible energy and stage presence, certainly lived up to the hype. From the moment the lights dimmed, the crowd erupted into cheers, signaling the start of a night that promised to be unforgettable.
The setlist was a journey through his expansive career, mixing classic hits with newer tracks from his extensive discography. The 42-year-old kicked things off on a high note with “Gang” and “It’s Raining”, with the stage lighting perfectly capturing the essence of the song, while his undeniable charisma and powerful voice filled the room. Rain’s vocal delivery was on point, seamlessly transitioning between groovy R&B to upbeat dance numbers.
Visually, the concert was a feast for the eyes. Stunning choreography accompanied each song, with dancers matching Rain’s fluid movements in perfect harmony. The high-energy performances were further elevated when the entertainer surprised fans with PSY’s “Gangnam Style” horse dance and a medley of Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic” plus “Leave The Door Open”.
Concert-goers seemed to feed off Rain’s energy, responding to every beat, every note, and every dance move with overwhelming enthusiasm. One of the most memorable moments of the night was when the singer showed up unannounced among audiences during “Bad Guy” and “With U + Fresh Woman”. Several lucky fans got to high-5 and interact with Rain up close.
Interacting with the audience, Rain took a few moments to express his gratitude and shared some personal insights into his music journey. His humility and connection with his fans shone through, making the night feel intimate despite the large venue.
Born Jung Ji-hoon, the K-pop star credits producer J. Y. Park, founder of JYP Entertainment, for his stage name Rain. “It had two kinds of meanings, because in Korean it means precipitation — like water and rain,” he explains. “But it also has the meaning of ‘something was sad.’ It has the meaning of sadness.”
“And he told me that the way I danced kind of looked sad, so it had a double meaning,” he continues. “But then later I just used it as a proper noun so that people can remember me whenever it rains and think of me, be reminded of me, when it rains.”
As the night came to a close, Rain left fans wanting more with an encore performance that included “La Song”, where he gave fans what they wanted, a good look at his abs. To show respect for Malaysians, he didn’t go topless, but still teased a little here and there. Yes, Rain oozes sex appeal, but it was also his interactions with the crowd that made it all the more memorable.
It was clear that his connection with the audience was genuine and deep, as evidenced by the raucous cheers that followed him offstage. Overall, Rain’s “Still Raining” concert at Resorts World Genting was a powerful testament to his legacy as a performer. It wasn’t just a concert—it was an experience. The blend of unforgettable music, flawless choreography, and captivating visuals made it a night that fans will remember for years to come.
