Things aren’t looking so good for Hong Kong actress Chrissie Chau (周秀娜). Recently, the star was hit with a defamation lawsuit by businessman Martin Lee Ka-shing (李家诚) after rumours that they have an explicit relationship resurfaced.
On 13th February 2026 (Friday), Martin issued a statement, saying he’s taking legal action against Chrissie, five YouTube channels and Google LLC, alleging defamation and harassment. The Henderson Land Development Chairman argued that the actress had triggered false speculation that harmed his reputation. He also stressed that the two have no relationship.
Chrissie recently sparked conversation online after an interview from June 2025 resurfaced. In the interview published on YouTube, the 40-year-old spoke about the rumours of her being “sponsored” by a second-generation Hong Kong businessman. However, it’s worth noting that the star never mentioned any names in her interview.
Despite never being named by Chrissie nor the YouTube channel, Martin claimed the rumours have caused reputational harm to him and his family. He alleges that gossip headlines led the public to wrongly assume he was the mystery man involved with the actress. The rumours first emerged in 2016, during promotions for Chrissie’s movie.
Chrissie has since issued a response to the lawsuit on social media. In her statement, the actress stressed that she never said, implied or led anyone to believe she had any form of relationship with Martin. She also argued that she clearly denied any connection to the businessman in her interview.
At the same time, Chrissie also expressed disappointment over claims that she fuelled fabricated news hype for publicity, adding that she felt greatly wronged. The star also said she’ll leave all legal matters to her lawyers. Martin has yet to issue a follow-up response. Meanwhile, fans expressed support for Chrissie amid the controversy.
For now, it’s unclear whether Martin will proceed with the lawsuit, given that Chrissie is adamant she never brought his name into the rumours. Nevertheless, we hope that the two can settle this issue amicably.
