Celebrity rankings are commonplace in the industry, and there have even been rankings of the top stars most loved by people of the same sex. However, China’s most recent list of the most beautiful female stars has caused some dissatisfaction with its result.
Recently, Chinese news outlets reported on the results of the Top 8 Most Beautiful Mainland China Actresses of 2024 voting event. The voting was done through a Chinese social media platform and opened to the public. Reportedly, the voting attracted the participation of more than 6 million netizens.

Here are the results of the votes:
- Ju Jingyi (鞠婧祎)
- Zhao Luxi (赵露思)
- Dilraba Dilmurat (迪丽热巴)
- Yang Zi (杨紫)
- Bai Lu (白鹿)
- Yu Shuxin (虞书欣)
- Wu Jinyan (吴谨言)
- Angelababy (杨颖)

Actress Ju Jingyi received the most votes, with over 1.9 million, and was crowned the most beautiful actress in China. The 30-year-old, also a former member of the idol group SNH48, was once nicknamed “Once In 4,000 Years Beauty”. Coming in second was 26-year-old Zhao Lusi, who received over 900,000 votes. Completing the top 3 was actress Dilraba Dilmurat, the global ambassador for French cosmetic company Clarins.
The ranking results were then shared on social media, igniting many discussions about the credibility of the voting. Given that fans can also vote for their favourite stars, others argue that the list is more a popularity contest than a proper ranking by professional judges. Others questioned why other notably beautiful actresses like Liu Yifei (刘亦菲), Yang Mi (杨幂) and Li Shishi (刘诗诗) didn’t make into the Top 8. On the other hand, netizens also say that some actresses don’t need to be voted into a list to prove their beauty.

Of course, they say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder – and it’s understandable if fans say their favourite star is the prettiest in the world, even when others disagree. Regardless, what are your thoughts on this list?
