Seriously, who doesn’t love long weekends, right? The longer, the better.

Have you used up most of this year’s annual leave already? Don’t worry, because 2017 is less than 4 months away. Here’s the awesome part: next year’s official calendar together with the list of holidays is out. Y’all know what this means right? It’s time to start planning for a year of awesome vacation weekends!

Next year is already looking quite promising because we’ll be having a total of 14 national public holidays and several long weekends that are spread pretty evenly throughout 2017, with the exception of a few “dry months” in March, April, July, and November.

The 9 official long weekends are as follows:

  1. New Year’s Day: 31st Dec 2016 – 2nd Jan 2017 (Saturday to Monday)
  2. Chinese New Year: 28th Jan 2017 – 30th Jan 2017 (Saturday to Monday)
  3. Thaipusam: 10th Feb 2017 – 12th Feb 2017 (Friday to Sunday)
  4. Labour Day: 29th Apr 2017 – 1st May 2017 (Saturday to Monday)
  5. Nuzul Al-Quran: 10th Jun 2017 – 12th Jun 2017 (Saturday to Monday)
  6. Hari Raya Puasa: 24th Jun 2017 – 26th Jun 2017 (Saturday to Monday)*
  7. National Day & Hari Raya Haji: 31st Aug 2017 – 3rd Sep 2017 (Thursday to Sunday)*
  8. Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (Maulidur Rasul): 1st Dec 2017 – 3rd Dec 2017 (Friday to Sunday)
  9. Christmas: 23rd Dec 2017 – 25th Dec 2017 (Saturday to Monday)

However, there are 3 public holidays which falls on the mid-week:

  1. Vesak Day – 10th May (Wednesday)
  2. Awal Muharram (Maal Hijrah) – 21st September (Thursday)
  3. Deepavali – 19th October (Thursday)*

Thanks to the cheatsheet from TripZilla, you can best utilise those precious 2017 leaves and increase your long weekends from 9 weeks to 12 weeks. All you need to do is apply 4 days of vacation leave for an additional 3 long weekends. Yay!

These are the following days to apply for leave to increase your long weekends (see the blue highlights above):

  • 2 Day Leave on 11th May (Thursday) and 12th May (Friday): May 10 – 14 (Wednesday to Sunday)
  • 1 Day Leave on 22nd Sep (Friday): Sep 21 – Sep 24 (Thursday to Sunday)
  • 1 Day Leave on 20th Oct (Friday): Oct 19 – Oct 22 (Thursday to Sunday)*

Side note: There’s a typo error in the chart for 22nd and 23rd September.

With that said, here are the 12 long weekends you can look forward to in 2017:

  1. 31st Dec 2016 – 2nd Jan 2017
  2. 28th Jan 2017 – 30th Jan 2017
  3. 10th Feb 2017 – 12th Feb 2017
  4. 29th Apr 2017 – 1st May 2017
  5. 10th May 2017 – 14th May 2017
  6. 10th Jun 2017 – 12th Jun 2017
  7. 24th Jun 2017 – 26th Jun 2017 *
  8. 31st Aug 2017 – 3rd Sep 2017 *
  9. 21st Sep 2017 – 24th Sep 2017
  10. 19th Oct 2017  – 22nd Oct 2017*
