Celeb-Owned Eateries

Fancy bumping into some of your favourite local celebs during your meals? Well, it could be a possibility if you drop by these celebrity-owned eateries in the Klang Valley.

Despite their busy schedules, celebrities have been following in the footsteps of chefs and restaurateurs to set up eateries as a second source of income. These outlets have done decently well in the F&B industry, but their celebrity appeal does provide an extra edge. How many of the following spots have you tried?

1. Jombali

As one of the top fashion icons in Malaysia, Wak Doyok also has a passion for food. Carrying the tagline “eating with style”, each Jombali restaurant (there are a total of 10 outlets) exudes the ambience of family chic. Wak Doyok’s favourite dishes include the Nasi Goreng Salted Egg, cheesy baked rice, dry wantan noodles, and Michellin-inspired fried rice – all of which are available on the menu.

  • Address: List of 10 branches here
  • Opening Hours: 9am – 10pm (varies between branches)
  • Contact: info@jombali.com.my
  • Facebook | Website

2. Morningwood

Owned by JinnyboyTV’s Reuben Kang, YouTube star Jared Lee and his wife, actress Marianne Tan, Morningwood is very much like your usual cafe. But just like its name, the menu is equally cheeky – providing us with options such as Bang Cock (Thai-inspired pasta with skewers of chicken), Ham Sap (cause there’s ham in it), and Hot Chicks. Some items on their menu will be changed from time to time.

*Side note: Morningwood is expected to reopen on 19th June under a new ownership. Do drop by for their amazing Nutella coffee when you’re free 😉

  • Address: 73-1, Jalan SS 15/8, SS 15, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor
  • Opening Hours: 9am – 10pm
  • Contact: info@morningwood.my
  • Facebook | Instagram

3. Whup Whup

Tucked away deep in the depths of the Subang Jaya Industrial Estate and factories, lies Whup Whup Restaurant & Cafe. The casual French eatery is a labour of love by former DJ and singer-turned-chef Liang, who got his training at Le Cordon Bleu in French cooking techniques. Popular favourites include Nu’ Yolk, Duck 3 Ways, as well as Glazed Lamb Shank with Ratatouille and Rosemary’s Taters. Do save some space for the dark chocolate cake, The Babyface – it’s sinfully good!

  • Address: 12, Jalan SS 13/3B, Subang Jaya, Selangor (There’s also another outlet in Isetan, KLCC)
  • Opening Hours: 11am – 10pm (Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays)
  • Contact: 03-5612 6250

4. SukaSucre Bistro

He may be talented in singing and acting but cooking is what gets Datuk Fazley Yaakob fired up. Ever since he won 1st place in the MasterChef Celebrity Malaysia reality show back in 2012, Fazley’s career as a chef has blossomed with his own eatery. SukaSucre Bistro (which means liking sugar) has a cosy and charming interior that is inspired by Parisian 90s café ambience. The multitalented father-of-3 serves Italian food mix with his “local touch”. The bistro is usually packed during weekends, so making a reservation beforehand is recommended.

  • Address: Wisma RYU, 81, Jalan 2/90, Taman Pertama, Cheras
  • Opening Hours: 6pm – 10pm (during Ramadan season)
  • Contact: 03-92017750/ 011-60555780
  • Facebook

5. Paperfish

Don’t be confused by its name, Paperfish is not an origami classroom. It’s actually an eatery for healthy foodies. Founded by former Fly FM radio announcer and popular dancer/YouTuber Dennis Yin, this food joint serves Japanese-inspired delicacy mixed with Malaysian flavours and spices. If it’s your first time trying poke bowls, the recommended dishes are their Umami Shoyu Salmon, Tuna poke bowls, or the Heatwave (salmon poke with a creamy spicy marinade).

  • Address: 26, Jalan Datuk Sulaiman TTDI, 60000 Kuala Lumpur
  • Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm
  • Contact: hello@paperfish.com.my
  • Facebook | Instagram

6. Restoran Rebung

Owned by celebrity chef Dato’ Chef Ismail and Malaysia’s first astronaut Datuk Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor Al Masrie, Restoran Rebung offers a warm kampung-like charm and a wide range of traditional Malay cuisine as well as desserts. This restaurant is especially popular for its buffet spread. Favourite dishes include nasi hujan panas, begedil, and laksa. Remember to try out the local sweet desserts of sago gula Melaka and ais kacang.

  • Address: Cascade Parking Bukit Aman, 5-2, Jalan Tanglin, Tasik Perdana, 50480 Kuala Lumpur
  • Opening Hours: 7am – 10pm
  • Contact: 03-2276 3535
  • Facebook | Website
