Nowadays, it seems like everything could be a scam. And although we try to be as careful as we can to avoid them, we do occasionally get tricked anyway. If we’re lucky, we won’t lose too much money. Unfortunately for influencer Cathryn Li (李元玲), she lost twice as much thanks to extreme bad luck.
“Piano Goddess” Cathryn Li recently shared how she fell for a scam which cost her a tidy sum of cash. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the first time. To make matters worse, her ex-boyfriend also absconded with her investment in his business!
Cathryn is well-known for her many talents and seemingly effortless beauty. As such, it was no surprise to see her fans jump at the chance to chat with her during her recent Q&A session on Instagram. One fan in particular was curious about her experience with scams as they got scammed recently. “Have you ever been scammed by a scammer?” they asked. “How do you comfort yourself?”
To their surprise, Cathryn claimed that she had, once. “I bought a watch online and wanted to gift it to my mother. I paid tens of thousand ringgit but received a fake. The seller also fled,” she shared. If you thought that was bad, it turned out that wasn’t the only incident she had.
Cathryn added a Taiwanese broker had once cheated her of her cash when she was working. She also loaned money once and couldn’t get it back. However, the one which was truly upsetting was the betrayal by her ex. “I tried to invest in my ex-boyfriend’s business, but he broke up (with me) and disappeared,” she wrote.
It wasn’t a surprise when Cathryn requested to end the topic. “Let’s not talk about it, I’m going to cry too,” she said. We have to agree, losing money to those scams would have been a hard pill to swallow. Hopefully she has better luck in the future!
