K-pop girl group BLACKPINK (블랙핑크) continues to make headlines with fashion show appearances and upcoming music releases. However, the girls are also receiving negative attention from netizens, with members Jennie (제니) and Lisa (리사) being recent targets.
Jennie had recently attended the CHANEL show at Paris Fashion Week, where she became the subject of criticism after a netizen accused her of being rude towards Japanese actress Nana Komatsu (小松 菜奈). The forum user claimed Jennie had an annoyed expression after greeting the “Drowning Love” star at the fashion show. A comment also brought up the point that both stars had allegedly dated BIGBANG (빅뱅) member G-Dragon (지드래곤), thus giving Jennie a reason to dislike the actress.
However, netizens defended Jennie and mocked the forum user for trying too hard to bring hate towards the “SOLO” singer. Some even pointed out that Jennie was the one who greeted the actress first, and others shared instances of the two having a good time with each other at the same event. Some suggested that Jennie’s expression was just the singer’s habit.
On the other hand, Lisa is getting backlash from K-pop fans for her mother’s Instagram activities. One Twitter user recently pointed out that Lisa’s mum, Chitthip Bruschweiler, has liked comments that show support for Israel. Her likes raise arguments that the Thai idol’s family are supportive of Zionist activities. However, it’s worth noting that Chitthip also likes comments from other fans, and it’s unlikely that her actions demonstrate her political stance.
Nevertheless, her activities caused unease amongst Pro-Palestine BLINKs, with many voicing disappointment towards Lisa, in addition to ongoing criticism. The “Rockstar” singer has recently received backlash after seemingly confirming her relationship with LVMH Watches’ CEO, Frédéric Arnault. The Arnault family are reportedly supporters of Israel who have indirectly contributed to the ongoing attack towards Palestine.
Fans continue to support Jennie and Lisa amidst the criticism. However, Lisa does seem to have received the bulk of the hate from netizens, given her relationship with Frédéric.
