Tears aren’t uncommon on a wedding day, especially with how emotional it can get. However, this bride in Gansu, China was in near tears for a different reason entirely. Apparently, she was being made to marry someone she didn’t love.
Footage of bride from Gansu, China on her wedding day is going viral as she holds back tears on what should have been her happiest day. As it turns out, her new husband is someone she barely knows nor loves, yet she has been promised to him. Needless to say, her story has garnered much sympathy.
At a glance, the couple looked radiant. The groom especially looks delighted and pleased on his wedding day. A look at the bride shows why. Her breathtaking beauty catches the eye immediately, more so clad in white for her wedding day. But, a closer look revealed unshed tears in the bride’s eyes and grief hidden in the shadows of her face.
Reportedly, she was being made to marry a man she didn’t love. Her new husband had apparently been chosen by her parents, after deeming him and his family adequate and acceptable. The two families had agreed on the marriage without the bride’s input, despite the fact that she and the man had only met once or twice. Left without a choice and pressured to comply to their local customs, she was forced to accept her reality.
But, that didn’t hide what her heart truly wanted. She was spotted secretly wiping away tears during her wedding, even expressing reluctance to allow her husband to touch her. She notably looked away when he helped her with her corsage, refused to let him hold her hand or even help her with her wedding gown.
Several netizens reportedly commented that most of these brides viewed arranged marriages as a custom and were often unable to break away due to traditional pressures. Others poetically said that the bride looked like a beautiful piece of glass that was on the verge of shattering.
Arranged marriages are unfortunately still common in this day and age, although not all of them move us to tears. This groom for instance was spotted being grumpy and sullen at his wedding, understandably so. Still, we sincerely hope this bride will do what’s best for her.
