As most holiday itineraries involve getting the best views and photos of your destination – plans often tarnished by cloudy skies and rainy weather – Premier Inn’s new study identifies the world’s clearest viewpoints, ensuring travellers can experience views without disappointment.

Premier Inn analysed 2023 weather data for nearly 100 viewpoints, including cloud coverage and average visibility, for 98 popular viewpoints around the globe.

The research revealed that Mehtab Bagh in India offers the most consistently clear views for travellers to enjoy. Known as the ‘Moonlight Garden’, the lush green space sits on the bank of the Yamuna River, just across from the Taj Mahal, offering striking views of the world-famous mausoleum.

Another impressive view awaits visitors of Padar Island’s Viewpoint. The panoramic vista offers scenes of three diverse beaches –one white, one black, and one pink – making for excellent landscape photographs.

Rounding off the top three in Asia is Tianmen Mountain in China. Sitting at an elevation of 1,581m above sea level, the viewpoint boasts glass walkways for those seeking a thrill, as well as views of ‘Heaven’s Gate’, an enormous hole in the mountain, and sights of the Zhangjiajie landscape below.

The observation deck known as ‘Seoul Sky’ in South Korea also offers a glass-floored skywalk that allows visitors to feel as if they’re walking on air and ranks just behind Tianmen Mountain in fourth place. Kengamine Peak, situated at the top of Mount Fuji in Japan completes the top five, offering a 360-degree panoramic view which can extend to Toyko Bay, the Izu Peninsula and on the clearest days (of which there are clearly many) even features some of the Izu Islands.

The Kengamine Peak is one of two Japanese views in the top 10, with Toyko Skytree ranking just behind in sixth place. Only two other countries in the continent offer more than one view in the top 15:

Japan, Malaysia and Indonesia have the clearest views in the continent overall, all featuring two clearest views in Asia’s top 15: Malaysia treats visitors to some of the clearest views at Mount Kinabalu (9th) and Langkawi Sky Bridge (12th), while Indonesia boasts stunning and high-visibility views from Padar Island (2nd) and Mount Batur (11th).
