What a plot twist! Recently, Chinese media has been abuzz about the death of Taiwanese artist Liu Wen-cheng (刘文正) aka Steven Liu. However, just yesterday (16th February), it was revealed that Wen-cheng had tried to fake his death!
While the latest news has shocked the world, there were a select few who apparently knew the artist better. One of them was his former apprentice, Taiwanese singer Annie Yi (伊能静). In fact, Annie had apparently expressed doubt about his passing before the news was even revealed!
On 15th February, Wen-cheng’s friend and agent, Hsia Yu-shun (夏玉顺) announced that the singer had passed away in November 2022 from a myocardial infarction. While the news shocked many, it was even more upsetting for Annie who found out during a media event.
Annie had initially been in shock. “I don’t know about this,” she finally told reporters. “I just got off a plane.” However, upon confirmation of the news, Annie was seen turning away to compose herself. The artist had apparently been very shaken by her former mentor’s ‘death’.
But, after sorting out her emotions, Annie claimed she wasn’t too sure of the news. “(If it’s not from) the family members, I have reservations (about it),” she allegedly told reporters. Annie added that knowing Wen-cheng, he wanted his privacy and so, she would respect that. She then refused to discuss further about Wen-cheng.
Well, Annie was certainly right! Apparently, Wen-cheng had attempted to fake his death after being repeatedly asked to return to perform. His agent later added that Wen-cheng felt bad for deceiving the public and allowed him to reveal the truth.
As for Annie, well, she later updated her Weibo with a single line: “Not what everyone says is true.” There’s no doubt in everyone’s mind that Annie definitely knows her former mentor! The 54-year-old was once part of a production company that Wen-cheng founded.
