Single On Valentine’s Day? No Prob! Here’s How To Celebrate HARD!

For many people, February means being bombarded with happy couples, flower bouquets, and lovey-dovey posts on social media about how much they love each other. For those who are still single and not happy about it, all of this can just be adding salt to the wound. But the truth is, you don’t have to be in a relationship to celebrate Valentine’s Day. You don’t need a partner to make your day better, and you certainly don’t need one to have fun. Valentine’s Day is just like any other day, and there’s nothing weird about being alone, whether you’re single by choice, just got out of a relationship, or stuck in a situationship.

While you can very easily just ignore the celebration completely, you can also take this opportunity to celebrate you and the existing relationships you already have! But on a holiday that’s all about being coupled up, what exactly can you do to celebrate it? Here are a some suggestions on some things you can do to celebrate Valentine’s Day solo:

Spa Day

You don’t really need an excuse to pamper yourself, but a day that’s all about love is certainly a good one. What better way to love yourself than to give yourself a much deserved spa day? You can either do a DIY Spa Day, or go all out and get a full body massage. Best thing about massages is, you can avoid looking at all the cute couples on the streets since it will just be you and your masseuse.

Log Off For The Day

While a lot of us use social media to connect with other people, looking at all the happy couples online on Valentine’s Day can be triggering for some. It can make the most confident people compare themselves to others. So instead of constantly wondering “When will it be me?”, take a break from social media so you won’t get bombarded by all the sweet couple posts.

Host a Singles-only Party

Just because you’re alone on V-Day, doesn’t mean you actually have to be alone. Chances are, there are a bunch of people who are going through the same thing as you. Besides, spending time with friends is a great celebration of platonic love. So gather all of your single friends, and plan a fun night where you party the night away (and completely forget about the day).

Get A Makeover

It’s official: Looking hot AF does make you feel good. It gets you out of that mental funk and also allows you to put the focus on yourself and your needs. According to psychologist Dr. Audrey Tang, the simple act of dressing up can in fact boost your mood. You’re choosing to dress up just to feel good, and that’s a win for you! Who care’s if you’re just lounging around the house? You’re dressing up for you and yourself ONLY.

Give Valentine’s Day Gifts To Your Friends

If you want to receive love, you have to give it first. So why not take this opportunity to make all the important people in your life feel loved? Give bouquets, cookies, chocolates to your friends and family. When we see them gleam with joy as they receive our gift, it releases endorphins into our brains, giving us euphoric feelings similar to falling for someone.

Start A New Project

There’s always that one project, whether it’s a book you’ve been planning to read, a skill you’ve always wanted to learn, or anything that you’ve been putting off because you just “didn’t have time”. Now is the time to do it! Doing something productive not only can give you a sense of achievement, it actually boosts your confidence. This is because when you set your mind to something, and you actually achieve it, it rewires your brain to make you think that you can do anything (which you can, duh!).

Art Gallery Hopping

The best way to distract yourself from all the blinding couples on the streets and on social media is to lose yourself in some really good art. Since you have the day all to yourself, why not visit some art galleries and immerse yourself in the minds of different artists? It’s calming and it takes your mind off from social media. And who knows, if you just so happen to meet your next partner there, wouldn’t THAT be a romantic meet-cute story to tell?
