These Malls In Klang Valley Have Become Vaccination Centres

The economic downfall of our country is an inevitable fact that has ruined the livelihoods of many families alongside the deep impact of Covid-19 in our nation. As a result, businesses have ceased operations, and some retail outlets have declared bankruptcy all due to one year’s worth of turmoil in the form of Covid-19! Malls have been heavily impacted too especially with the fear of regular customers contracting the virus, the regular usage of food delivery services and the movement restrictions imposed towards social sectors. This had resulted in some of them being on the verge of ending their operations.

However, the government has decided to turn these abandoned malls into vaccination centres (PPV). With the rampant nationwide vaccination program, it is no doubt that the government would need more vaccination centres that could accommodate more vaccination recipients. This is an effort to increase the country’s vaccination rate. Earlier, the Malaysia Shopping Malls Association (PPK) requested the government to utilise shopping centres as Covid-19 vaccination centres (PPV) instead of postponing the inoculation programme for retail workers. More than 60 malls have offered to host PPVs and have agreed to subsidise the operations.

Curious, still? Well, here is the list of shopping malls in Klang Valley that have been converted into vaccination centres.

1 Utama’s PJPAC venue

In collaboration with the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) and National Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF), 1 Utama launches its very own RM1 million funded RiVAC Centre (Pusat Pemberian Vaksin Industri) with the core purpose of immunising its retail tenants and mall frontliners to protect the public from the spread of Covid-19. The centre has the capacity to administer 1,000 vaccines daily.

This mall in Bukit Jelutong, was the first commercial hotspot in Selangor to adopt the SUMO (Shop Unit Mall Office) concept which promises a unique contemporary lifestyle combining business and leisure all under one roof. Dubbed as Malaysia’s first eco-mall, Space U8 has a lot of “green” features encapsulated within it. Now, this mall would be a vaccination centre with a maximum capacity of 3,000 doses per day.

Albeit the rising number of cases, this is indeed great news for both the management of the mall and upcoming vaccination recipients. Hopefully, with these malls being vaccination centres, the nationwide vaccination drive could be a huge success.
