A Weekend In Tokyo Street

Can you believe Pavilion KL’s Tokyo Street is celebrating its first birthday? It feels like it was just yesterday that the world’s premier shopping destination officially launched the only place in Kuala Lumpur that embodies the rich heritage of Japanese culture.

With unique and authentic cultural offerings, Tokyo Street has become a fast favourite for shoppers like us for its dynamic mix of contemporary eccentricity and cultural heritage. Yes, it all sounds like big words but have you actually seen what it looks like?:

Traditional Tokyo street style through and through!

In there, you will also find, tucked away in its cozy enclave, a “street” of vibrant shops, cafes, and restaurants. And really, who needs to mall hop to find elusive Japanese stores when they’re all in one place now?

What’s that? You’re craving for a piping hot bowl of Santouka Hokkaido Ramen and maybe some mochi after? You need to buy Hello Kitty merchandise for your little niece? Your nephew’s birthday is coming and you’re thinking of getting him some To-Fu collectibles?

There are loads more of the best and most popular in Japan’s retail offerings (Daiso, Matsuri Mart, The Click Shop, HABA) on top of various F&B outlets that will leave you absolutely spoilt for choice. In fact, it’s hard to not want to spend an entire day soaking up the vibe and the ambience of a precinct that’s fully inspired by the essence of Ginza and Shibuya’s cityscapes.

We would know. We spend way too much time in Tokyo Street. Not that we’re complaining! And if you haven’t been, well, the time is now.

For the entire month of July, and in conjunction with its first anniversary celebration, shoppers will enjoy treats at various participating outlets (from F&B discounts to getting a portrait in a “Yukuta” or “Harajuku” costume). You could also pick up the thousand-year tradition of bonsai planting (we hear it’s really therapeutic!) or learn Japanese tea art on your day out at Tokyo Street, Pavilion KL.

So, what say you? Got a better way to spend your weekend at Pavilion KL? We think not! Head on over to Tokyo Street for a little rest and relax, the Japanese way.
