Just last week, Coldplay announced that they were coming to Malaysia, much to the delight of local fans here. Unfortunately, one worry has since popped up about the concert. That’s right, buying tickets. As everyone knows, it is never easy to buy concert tickets, and it usually comes at a very high cost.
Well, there’s no denying how desperate people can get when it comes to buying concert tickets. In fact, some are already offering ticketing services for Coldplay’s upcoming concert. But, for this teen, he’s more concerned about getting enough cash for it. As such, he’s since resorted to crowdfunding, in hopes of buying a ticket.
Shortly after news of Coldplay’s concert and ticket prices went viral, this 19-year-old teen took to his socials to ask for help. “I’m asking all of you to help me achieve my dream,” he stated in his post on Instagram. “To watch Coldplay right before my eyes.”
The teen explained that as the ticket sales were right around the corner, it was difficult for him to scrape up enough cash for it. “Someone suggested this (idea) a couple of days ago since I don’t have much time, with finals to come in couple weeks, overdue assignments, and also almost no time to like have side hustle since the sale would be open in 6 days,” he explained. “And I’m afraid high demands would mean it would be sold out pretty quickly.”
He added that he had initially been unsure of the idea, but ultimately hoped this “great community” would help out. The teen also clarified that he was not forcing anyone to help him out. “It would mean the world to me if you do help, and I’m very appreciative of all of you. If you can’t, that’s okay. Save the money for better use and purpose,” he added.
A quick glance at his crowdfunding site has the same pitch in its description. However, notably enough, he’s set his goal for $800 (~RM3601.60) despite claiming he’s hoping to reach his target of (MYR 3,583.20). This should be more than enough to buy him the most expensive ticket Ultimate Experience worth RM3,088.
Needless to say, his post garnered mixed reactions from fans. While he’s mostly been shown support from fellow fans, some aren’t too happy with the way he’s going about achieving his “dream”. “How about no?” one comment said scathingly. “You want (a) VIP seat and also RM500 as pocket money? 170 days time period. Lol. You can literally work part time anywhere for 170 days for this amount. This is ridiculous.”
But, regardless of what some think, the 19-year-old’s pitch has worked somewhat. So far, he’s garnered $58 (~RM259.78), over the course of three days. He still has some time before the ticket sales end, but it’s uncertain if he will be able to reach that point.
Well, it’s certainly admirable that he’s willing to try whatever he can to achieve his dream of watching Coldplay. Although we aren’t certain if there was another way to generate enough cash for his “adventure of a lifetime”, we wish him luck in his endeavours.
