Love can often spur people to do the craziest things. While most usually hear weird or embarrassing stories about what they did for their loved ones, this hawker decided to put her life on the line for her boyfriend! A few days ago, a female coffeeshop hawker in Cheras went viral for defending an employee from two men wielding machetes.
However, there was much more to the story! Netizens were surprised to discover the employee was actually her boyfriend. That wasn’t the only surprising relation. As it turned out, the hawker is the sister to Malaysian actress Janelle Chin aka Jan (秦雯彬) too!
For those watching the video, Ms. Chin’s immediate action had been one of bravery. Many marvelled at her unwavering determination to deal with the duo while helping the drinks stall employee escape. However, the 42-year-old woman was quick to humbly explain that she had simply acted without thinking.
“Of course, it’s not just because he is my boyfriend,” she reportedly told China Press. “There are actually many factors. Even if the person who was (attacked) in front of me is my employee, I will definitely step forward. But the main reason is because the person who (was being attacked) in front of me is very important to me.” Notably enough, Ms. Chin is both the owner of the coffee shop and runs the wantan mee stall there.
In fact, Ms. Chin got the chills when she re-watched the CCTV footage. There’s no denying the danger she had been in. However, Ms. Chin resolutely refused to regret her actions because saving someone’s life was more important to her. Adorably enough, her boyfriend apparently had the same idea as he had been reluctant to leave her behind despite being injured.
Luckily for Ms. Chin, she managed to escape the situation unscathed. Her sister, actress Janelle, was also thankful Ms. Chin was safe. “I’m glad my sister is fine, and I’m glad the employee who was (attacked) was not (badly hurt),” Janelle told China Press during a visit to her sister’s coffee shop. “(I) hope the employee can recover soon.”
Janelle also did not hold it against the employee for putting her sister in danger. She later explained the employee was innocent and rarely got into spats with customers. In fact, the perpetrators were allegedly regulars of the place. Janelle also reportedly speculated that the customer may have been in a bad mental state when he was reprimanded by the employee.
Ms. Chin’s coffee shop has resumed its usual operations. However, her boyfriend is currently unable to work, thanks to his injured hand. We hope he recovers soon and we wish Ms. Chin well as she continues running her coffee shop after her short stint as a hero!
