Janelle Monáe is what you would call a triple threat in Hollywood – singer, songwriter, actress.
The multi-talented star currently has her eyes set on an iconic X-Men character. Speaking with Empire Magazine, the 34-year-old hasn’t been shy about her campaign to play Storm in an upcoming Marvel movie.
Thanks to the merger of Fox and Disney, Kevin Feige has confirmed that fans can expect a “X-Men” movie in the near future. Although a “X-Men” standalone movie probably won’t appear until 2024, it’s not too far-fetched to think that the female heroin could appear in “Black Panther 2”.
When asked whether she had approached director Ryan Coogler about potentially having a part in the Wakanda world, Monáe replied, “I definitely have thrown it out there.” She added, “One of my dreams has always been to play Storm. I don’t know if she comes in Black Panther, but it would be a dream to have her in it. I don’t know where they are with that. A lot of women have played Storm and they’ve done an exceptional job, and I would love to be in that line of artists and get to do Storm justice.”
As you may know, Ororo Munroe a.k.a Storm was once married to King T’Challa – making her the Queen of Wakanda. Rumour has it that there are plans to introduce popular X-Men characters in separate projects before bringing the whole group together for an “X-Men” team-up film. Besides, another famous Marvel mutant – Namor the Sub-Mariner – is also expected to appear in the “Black Panther” sequel.
If Oscar winner Mahershala Ali was successful in pitching the role of Blade to Feige, it would be remiss if Monáe didn’t throw her hat in the ring for Storm as well.
