Tis’ the weekend to be hunting 😉
Niantic Inc. has announced a global “Water Festival” global event that increases the likelihood of encountering water Pokémon. That’s right!
As confirmed by Niantic Inc. via their website, from today until 29th March, the in-game event will see increased spawns of water-type Pokémon e.g. Magikarp, Squirtle, Totodile and their evolutions around the world. Their evolutions meaning Gyarados, Wartortle, Blastoise, Croconaw, and Feraligatr.
On top of that, when you’re out exploring areas where water-type Pokémon more commonly appear, you’ll have a greater chance to encounter several of the water-type Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region.
Niantic Inc. even teased that trainers may or may not encounter the extremely rare, highly coveted Pokémon, Lapras. Lapras is a part-ice, part-water Pokémon.
Note: The Water Festival event is in conjunction with the United Nations’ World Water Day, which is celebrated on 22nd March every year to raise awareness on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
More interestingly, the event officially introduced shiny Pokémon to the game. Several users are reported to have spotted shiny gold Magikarp in the wild and some trainers have even evolved them into the shiny, red Gyarados.
If you’d like, you can also get a new Magikarp hat for your avatar. But you’d need to buy it for Pokécoins, of course.
In other news, Niantic Inc. has also announced that they’re in the process of updating the app to ensure that it’s easier for trainers to obtain an evolution item. The 7-day PokéStop streak will now award a random evolution item.
Ready to hunt all weekend? We know we are! 😉
