“Knowing is good. Knowing everything is better.”
Besides “Beauty and the Beast“, Emma Watson’s other highly-anticipated 2017 film is “The Circle”. Directed by James Ponsoldt (of “The Spectacular Now” fame), the upcoming novel-turned-movie is co-produced by Tom Hanks, who also plays “wise man” Bailey in the film.
Based on American author Dave Eggers’ best-selling novel of the same name, “The Circle” revolves around a girl named Mae Holland (played by Emma Watson), a recent graduate who lands a big job in an Internet monopoly called the Circle. The tech company links users’ personal emails, social media, banking, and purchasing with their universal operating system, resulting in one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency. Sounds familiar? (Ahem, Google.)
The trailer opens with Mae interviewing for a job at the Circle, answering questions like, “Mario or Sonic?” After that, it sees Bailey giving an empowering speech about how the Circle can end hunger and cure diseases. Mae can then be seen sneaking into a high-security room with Kalden (played by John Boyega), discussing how the Circle has the power to change everything.
