Picture this: The Avengers and The X-Men joining forces on the big screen. It’s the superhero gathering comic book fans have been dreaming of for years.
Ever since Marvel was able to strike a deal with Sony that allowed Spider-Man to co-exist in the Marvel cinematic universe starting with “Spider-Man: Homecoming“, many have wondered if 20th Century Fox would at least consider doing something similar. As it turns out, they have.
During a recent episode of “Collider Heroes”, “Fatman on Batman” producer Matt Key discussed that Fox may be willing to collaborate with Marvel about having some kind of crossover sometime down the road.
Here’s what Key said: “I’ve heard from a few of my sources, my little birds, that Fox and Marvel have… kind of talked, but not really, but like there’s interest from Fox, like, ‘Ooh, y’know, what they did with Sony and Spider-Man is actually pretty cool, like, maybe…’ We’re years away from that ever possibly happening… but I think that’s what it would take… Fox joining hands with Marvel…”
Before you start imagining scenarios of Professor X, Magneto, Mr Fantastic, The Thing, Deadpool, Captain America, and Iron Man together, it doesn’t appear that the collaboration will take place anytime soon. Key’s comments also sounds pretty far from anything solid.
One of the reasons why fans shouldn’t get their hopes high is because of the possible timeline already proposed by Fox. There are already several X-Men spinoffs in the works, and since “Deadpool” did pretty well in the box office worldwide, it doesn’t seem like they are in desperate need to hook up with Marvel.
But if there’s any indication that Fox might make a deal with Marvel, the likeliest superheroes would be Marvel’s First Family. After “Fantastic Four” flopped last year, this is 1 such property that could really benefit from getting a makeover from Marvel Studios.
In addition, judging from the massive success from “Captain America: Civil War” (which demonstrate how eager audiences are to see their favourite heroes go head to head), think of how attractive it’d be to have an Avengers vs X-Men movie! The best we can do is hope for now.
