6 Weird Things That Increase Attraction, According To Science!

What makes you attracted to someone? We all have a list of traits or features that we often find in the people we’re attracted to. Whether it’s the way they speak, the way they look, or the way they act. However, have you ever been attracted to someone that doesn’t necessarily fit your ‘criteria’? Attraction is a mysterious thing, and there’s not always an answer to why you’re attracted to someone. There is, however, a list of weird things that increases attraction. Who knows? You might even have some weird traits that have got others attracted to you as well, things you may not even realise!

Here are weird things that increase attraction, according to science:

Eating More Vegetables

Who knew eating your vegetables could benefit other areas of your life other than health? According to a study, it was found that the female participants were less attracted to the odours of male participants who ate refined carbs. Instead, they were more attracted to the participants who incorporated more fruits and vegetables into their diet. This is because participants who ate more fruits and vegetables have more pleasant smelling sweat. So if you wanna be more attractive to someone, make sure you smell nice first!

If You Remind Them Of Their Parents

Welp, we told you it was gonna be weird. A 2017 study suggested that people may be attracted to you because there’s something about you that reminds them of their parents. They found that straight women and gay men, in particular, were attracted to body types that resembled their fathers. So no, you’re not crazy for liking dudes with dad bods! However, this doesn’t automatically mean you have “daddy issues”. In fact, based on the study, women who had positive relationships with their fathers are more likely to pursue men with similar body types. This is due to the psychological phenomenon humans can experience called bonding, or imprinting. It’s NOT just a wolf thing!

Watching A Horror Movie Together

If you’re thinking of taking your crush to the movies, you may wanna steer clear of the romance films, and go for a horror movie instead. According to experts, watching a horror movie with someone might just increase the chances of them finding you attractive. This may be due to the misattribution of arousal, which is when one mistakes what it is that is causing them to feel aroused. They may confuse physiological responses to fear as romantic arousal for someone. All that excitement and adrenaline you’re feeling during the horror film is likely from the terrifying clowns or demons, not the person sitting next to you.

The Propinquity Effect

The propinquity effect describes growing attraction towards someone by simply being in close proximity with them over an extended period of time. It’s the tendency for individuals to form close relationships with people they repeatedly encounter. The more often one comes into contact with one person, the more likely it is for one to form a friendship or a romantic relationship with them. Our brains like that sense of familiarity, so we convince ourselves that the pleasantness we feel is because of the attraction itself. So, is it attraction, or are you just spending too much time with them?

Speaking Into Their Right Ear

One of the best known asymmetries in humans is the right ear dominance for listening. People may just like what you have to say if they hear it first in their right ear. In a 2009 research, a woman requested a smoke from a total of 176 people at a club. The people she spoke to were twice as likely to give her a cigarette if she asked them in their right ear. Many experts believe that this is due to language processing taking place primarily in the brain’s left hemisphere, and which receives auditory input from the right ear.

If You Have A Talent In Music

It’s time to take out your guitar that you bought cause you were bored and wanted to learn a new instrument, because according to science, women are more likely to share their number with a guy carrying a guitar case than a gym bag. This may be due to the idea that women associate musical talent with them being smarter and having more genetic advantage. In an experiment, a guy approached 300 women and asked for their numbers after giving them a compliment. He did three different scenarios, one where he’s carrying nothing, one holding a gym bag, and one carrying a guitar case. Over a third of the women gave their number to the man when he was holding a guitar case, while the scenario where he was carrying a gym bag got the least amount of numbers.
