As expected, Marvel’s latest movie “Deadpool & Wolverine” became an instant hit after it premiered last week. Starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as Deadpool and Wolverine respectively, the movie centres around the two characters being forced to work together to defeat an existential threat to save their home worlds. Talks about cameos in the movie have been a hot topic for months prior to the release.

Taylor Swift was among the stars rumoured to appear in this latest instalment of the “Deadpool” franchise, which also features songs from K-pop group Stray Kids. Now that the movie is out, it is now confirmed that there were over 40 cameos but we’re going to list down only a few of our favourite unexpected cameos that made it into the final cut. Warning: This list may contain spoilers so proceed at your own risk.

1. Tom Holland’s Brother, Harry Holland as Deadpool variant

Although he’s not necessarily the most famous person on this list, his appearance was definitely one of the most talked about. It was recently revealed on Instagram by stuntman George Cottle that Tom Holland (who plays Spider-Man in the MCU)’s brother Harry played a Deadpool variant in the movie. The revelation even caught Ryan Reynolds off guard when he responded to the post with, “This is how I find out!?!”

2. Chris Evans as Human Torch

The audience cheered when former Captain America, Chris Evans appeared on screen. Deadpool himself was excited to see him. However, what people didn’t expect was that the actor did not play Steve Rogers in the movie but instead his other Marvel character, Johnny Storm aka Human Torch from the 2005 movie “Fantastic Four”.

3. Channing Tatum as Gambit

About a decade ago, it was announced that Channing Tatum would play Gambit in an untitled live-adaptation movie about the X-Men character. However, the project never saw the light of day. 10 years later, Gambit finally made his onscreen debut in the “Deadpool & Wolverine” movie and from the crowd’s reaction, it was worth the wait.

Fans got to see the character in action and even praised the comic-accurate costume he was wearing. Sadly, this is more of a fan service than an announcement as there’s still no confirmation whether or not the untitled “Gambit” movie will be re-developed. Regardless, we’re still glad we finally got to see what could’ve been.

4. Blake Lively as Lady Deadpool

We saw her in the trailer but had no idea who played her until the movie was out. Ryan Reynold’s wife actress Blake Lively made an off-screen cameo in the “Deadpool & Wolverine” movie by voicing a Deadpool variant, Lady Deadpool. Although her face was not shown, the character’s physical appearance (played by a stunt woman) was partially inspired by Blake’s iconic “Gossip Girl” character Serena van der Woodsen.

5. Henry Cavill as “Cavillrine” (Wolverine variant)

This cameo definitely took many by surprise. When Deadpool was jumping through multiverses, he encountered a Wolverine variant played by Henry Cavill. He even joked about how Marvel would treat Henry better than “those s**t f**ks down the streets”, referring to DC and Warner Bros after they announced that the actor would no longer play Superman. The British star is now the 3rd person to ever play Wolverine apart from Hugh Jackman and singer Troye Sivan, who played a younger version of the character in “X-Men Origin: Wolverine”.

Honourable Mentions

1. Dafne Keen as X-23

This special cameo was actually spoiled in one of the trailers for “Deadpool & Wolverine”. Dafne Keen reprised her role as X-23, a character she played at 11 years old in the 2017 movie “Logan”. Now all grown up, the clone and daughter of Wolverine helped her father and Deadpool escape the Void and was seemingly consumed by Alioth. However, X-23 was shown to have survived in the final scene.

After this cameo, fans are now wondering if Dafne will be playing the character again in future MCU projects but so far, there’s no direct indication that she will return. Now that the doors are open, anything is possible so we’ll just have to wait and see.
