We’ve seen many celebrities picking up “normal jobs” after fading out of fame. However, fans were shocked to learn that a pioneer in the K-pop industry is now working as a farmer.
Korean singer Shoo (슈) is a member of S.E.S (에스이에스), one of K-pop’s earliest girl groups, and is recognised as a legend in K-pop. Unfortunately, in 2018, she ran into legal issues. She was sued for failing to repay gambling debts amounting to KRW700 million (approximately RM2.1 million). She was also prosecuted for gambling in several countries. For those unaware, Korean citizens are prohibited from engaging in gambling activities.
The singer then went into hiatus for her scandal before returning to showbiz in 2022. Recently, Shoo revealed that she entered a new journey in her life and is now working in the farming industry. According to reports, the star now owns a 1,500-pyeong (approximately 4,950 sqm) farm growing Centella Asiatica, a herb known for its medicinal benefits. In addition, the star is using her produce to create products for her health supplement company, Cicagen.
Shoo also shared her experience through social media, posting photos of her farm and her new career. She revealed that she got into the business through a friend’s recommendation. The star admitted that transitioning from showbiz to entrepreneurship isn’t easy. However, she said she enjoys the process and will continue to work diligently. Fans have since reacted to the news, expressing interest in Shoo’s new business.
Previously, Shoo revealed that her gambling addiction had a severe effect on her life. According to the star, she had lost all the money she earned working in the entertainment industry and through real estate investments. She was also on the verge of bankruptcy. The singer also worked odd jobs to repay her debt, including selling at markets and waiting tables at a friend’s restaurant.
It’s unknown whether Shoo still plans to return to singing, but it does seem like her new career is taking off quite well. We wish the star all the best in her new life as a farmer and entrepreneur.
