After Taiwanese actress Joe Chen (陈乔恩) married her Malaysian husband Alan Chen (曾伟昌) in 2022, the couple has been bombarded with questions about starting a family. The 45-year-old has previously shared her stance on having kids, saying she’s not interested in the idea – but that doesn’t seem to stop the nagging netizens.
The actress recently did a live broadcast through her Instagram account, where she chatted with viewers about various topics. However, one common question she received during the livestream was about having children. Joe is no stranger to getting questions about starting a family with her artist husband. However, she seems indifferent to getting pregnant, recently reiterating her stance through a Q&A session.
During the livestream, Joe voiced her confusion about netizens frequently asking her to have children. She argued, “Does the issue of whether I have children or not have a big impact on society? It’s up to me whether I want to have kids!”. She also contested netizens’ worry that she won’t have anyone to take care of her when she’s older. She quipped, “Why don’t you take care of yourself? I should be able to care for myself.”
Joe also talked about how netizens claimed her marriage would end in divorce if she didn’t have children. In response to these comments, the public figure said, “Does the longevity of a marriage depend on having children? If you give birth to ten kids, will your marriage last long?” The “Fated To Love You” star said she tried to accept different opinions about family planning. However, she admits she doesn’t understand why people are angry at her for not having kids.
