Celebrities and public figures have some of the most unexpected friendships – so it can be a pleasant surprise to see who knows who. However, Hong Kong media personality Ayla Sham (沈月) may have one of the most shocking connections as she recently shared photos with HRH Tengku Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, the Princess of Selangor.
Ayla and Tengku Zatashah recently attended the Singapore Grand Prix, spending time together during the weekend event. The two flaunted their friendship as they went around the paddocks and checked out the after-race concert. The princess also revealed that they had brunch together at the renowned Japanese restaurant Nobu. In one post, Tengku Zatashah even called Ayla her “meimei (younger sister)”, showing how close the pair are.
Given that the two seemed worlds apart, many might wonder how the two have come to know each other. While there’s no exact timeline for their friendship, it’s likely that Ayla and Tengku Zatashah first met when they appeared at a fashion event in Shanghai in June. The 23-year-old media personality even interviewed the royalty, asking her about her favourite Chinese food and drama. Ayla had already begun referring to Zatashah as her “jiejie (older sister)” during the time so it’s likely that they’ve been well-acquainted since that meeting.
Tengku Zatashah is also known for her outgoing personality, on top of her status as Malaysian royalty, so it’s unsurprising that the 51-year-old has many connections. During the Singapore Grand Prix, she and Ayla also met retired Singaporean swimmer and Olympic gold medalist Joseph Schooling. The public figure also shared photos of her with renowned K-pop choreographers Kirsten Dodgen of Jam Republic and Bada Lee of Team BEBE.
While it was a surprise to find out these two are friends, we love the interactions between Tengku Zatashah and Ayla. We’re sure they both had a great time at the Singapore Grand Prix, and we can’t wait to see more of this unexpected duo.
