When you think of food to enjoy at the theatre, common snacks like popcorn or chicken nuggets typically come to mind. However, modern cinemas are expanding their menus, offering a wider variety of foods to enhance the movie-going experience.
Last year, a theatre in China went viral for serving hot pot to their customers, coining the term “hot pot cinema”. If you want to experience the same thing, then great news! Malaysians can now look forward to a similar experience as the ultimate cinematic dining service is set to launch soon!

On 24th August, Dadi Cinema, a well-known cinema chain, hinted at introducing Malaysia’s first-ever hot pot dining experience in cinemas. Through their social media posts, they revealed that during the premiere of “The Unwavering Brotherhood,” they hosted a teaser of this unique experience for a group of content creators. The pictures shared by Dadi Cinema showed a dining setup that included fresh ingredients, sauces, and a bowl of broth placed on a stove, offering a glimpse of this exciting new service.
Despite the exciting and unique concept, the teaser for hot pot dining in cinemas received mixed reactions from Malaysian netizens. Some appreciated the idea, thinking it would be a great way to enjoy a meal while watching a movie – effectively killing two birds with one stone, as they say. However, others expressed concern that it might distract viewers from the movie and worried that the food could attract insects into the cinema hall, detracting from the experience.

Would you indulge in this hot pot cinema experience, or stick with the classic popcorn instead?
