Though Marvel fans are always looking forward to the next big projects, one can’t deny that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) hasn’t been quite the same since the “Avengers: Endgame” concluded an entire saga 5 years ago. Marvel Studios is no stranger to casting famous Hollywood stars to play a role in the MCU but sadly, not everyone is keen on the idea.
Speaking of Hollywood stars joining the MCU, we’ve also heard plenty of casting rumours and speculations but one of the most popular rumours that’s been circulating is singer-songwriter Taylor Swift potentially bringing a mutant character to life onscreen. Here’s what we know:
Word has been going around that Taylor Swift might be joining the MCU family. From our understanding, the rumours of the country-turned-pop star playing a Marvel character have been ongoing since fans likened her to a certain “X-Men” character named Dazzler/Alison Blaire, a role previously played by Halston Sage in the “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” movie.
The rumours then escalated after the Grammy winner was spotted at a football game in 2023 with Shawn Levy, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the director and stars of the “Deadpool & Wolverine” movie respectively. Due to this, many speculated that the character Dazzler might be making an appearance in the upcoming R-rated movie and she could be played by Taylor.
Back then, Shawn Levy neither confirmed nor denied the “Fortnight” artist’s involvement in the movie or the MCU in general. Fast forward to this week, new rumours have circulated after an insider told ComicBookMovie that the 34-year-old is in talks with Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige about potentially playing a role in the MCU. Do note that this doesn’t mean that the rumoured discussions are official nor does it confirm Taylor will play Dazzler in a future project.
In an interview with Fandango yesterday (Monday, 20th May), Ryan Reynolds reacted to the rumours about the songwriter possibly making a cameo in the highly anticipated “Deadpool & Wolverine” movie. He said, “You know, movies like this, there’s so much speculation about so many people that might end up in the film. I saw one that was convinced that Elvis was in the movie. Anything can happen and that’s sort of what I love about this universe. Surprises are the essence of Deadpool”.
Once again, fans are left with no definite answer. If the rumours are true and if the insider’s scoop is reliable, then we look forward to seeing what Taylor Swift will bring to the table.
