Just when you thought the Burning Sun scandal involving former BIG BANG member Seungri (승리) had died down, new never-before-seen footage and disturbing details about the K-pop star have been released. To recap, Seungri, FT Island’s Choi Jong-hoon (최종훈) and Highlight’s Yong Jun-hyung (용준형), were accused of drug use, sexual assault, tax evasion, and colluding with law enforcement at the Burning Sun club.
After a series of arduous investigations and trials, the former BIG BANG member was then sentenced to 18 months in jail in 2022. He completed his sentence earlier last year but it looks like he’ll have to put his fresh start on hold as more skeletons from his past has been unveiled.

Over the weekend, BBC released a 1-hour documentary titled, “Burning Sun: Exposing the Secret K-pop Chat Groups” detailing the events that shook the Korean entertainment industry. The broadcast presented more details regarding the text messages in the KakaoTalk group chat between the idols who were involved in the scandal. As seen in the screenshots above, Seungri responded to illegal sex videos being distributed in the chat, aware of the crimes committed by his associates and colleagues.
One of the most disturbing revelations about the scandal was the footage that showed the singer acting aggressively towards an unidentified woman at a party. The “Fantastic Baby” artist was seen yelling at the woman and forcefully pulling her by the wrist while she was desperately trying to escape from his grasp. He then threatened to hit her for refusing to follow him.

Unfortunately, it was not revealed who recorded the video and how BBC got a hold of it but it was enough to anger netizens who proceeded to slam Seungri as seen in their reactions above. Apart from the video and text messages, the documentary also revealed that late singer Goo Hara (구하라) from the girl group Kara played a critical role in the investigation as she was the one who approached the journalist who published the story.
Being a victim of revenge porn herself, the idol wanted to seek justice for the victims of the Burning Sun scandal. The exposé was made possible because Hara was friends with Seungri and Choi Jong-hoon and she had seen the contents of the men’s group chat when she hung out with them. The “Pandora” songstress got the FT Island member to identify the police officer who was involved in the Burning Sun scandal through a phone call.

Though Hara has done a great service in her assistance of putting criminals behind bars, at the time, she was also struggling after the death of her friend Sulli from f(x) and eventually, took her own life as well.
