In the age of social media, it’s simultaneously easy and difficult for anyone to get famous and sadly, some have no problems with going viral for just anything. Last month, many were shocked when content creator Bai En invited notorious alleged scammer Adeline Chang to appear on a live broadcast with her.
The collaboration caused quite a stir with netizens suggesting that Adeline should’ve been locked up rather than being given a platform as an influencer. As a matter of fact, a content creator from China agreed with these netizens and has shared her opinions on the issue.
Earlier this week, China TikToker GiGi posted a video on her channel to share her thoughts on the recent controversies surrounding Adeline Chang saying how baffled she was that Malaysians can easily find fame online. “One person went viral for their sex change story while another for not paying their e-hailing fares. You guys are really giving your country a bad name,” she said.
The content creator then expressed her concerns for the future generation saying they might be easily influenced by certain people who found success by being controversial. “This toxic culture will poison the future generations and mislead them into thinking that they can make easy money online”. The TikToker, who currently resides in Malaysia, highlighted in her video that an influencer should be someone responsible and make positive contributions to society.
She ended her video by urging everyone, especially public figures, to spread and produce more positive content to better represent the country that they are from. As seen in the comments section, some agreed with her points while others argued that Malaysia do have good content creators.
We personally would have to agree with her that sadly there are content creators that rely too much on cheap publicity to stay relevant and will continue to do them despite the constant backlash. What are your thoughts on this issue?
