While they may be big stars on stage and screen, celebrities are still subjected to illnesses and that means they too can suffer from side effects of their sickness. Recently, Taiwanese singer Angela Zhang (張韶涵) had to cancel a show after singing only a few tracks, supposedly because of poor health.
During a recent appearance at a public event, 42-year-old Angela reportedly fell ill in the middle of her performance and had to stop the show. The singer was also seen being escorted out of the venue by her staff member, causing fans to be concerned. After the cancelled performance, Angela’s agency posted a photo of the star at the hospital, confirming that the star wasn’t feeling well during the night but assuring fans that she was recovering. While unconfirmed, it was believed that Angela was suffering from acute gastroenteritis, which is an inflammation of the stomach and intestines.

However, Angela’s reported illness brought up some terrible rumours about the star, including one about her defecating while on stage. The rumour stemmed from netizens who claimed to be at the venue during the performance. According to a Weibo post that shared these claims, the audience at the event also reportedly smelt a foul odour coming from the stage, seemingly proving that the star had accidentally pooped her pants while singing.
These rumours led to significant backlash towards those who spread the allegations, condemning them for making fun of the singer. Some even said such rumours are insensitive towards Angela and her health issues, given that acute gastroenteritis can be painful. However, others defended the vocalist, saying her going on stage despite understanding the risk shows her dedication to work. A doctor also posted in defence of Angela, saying that people should be more understanding towards the public figure, instead of making fun of her illness.

Unfortunately, we cannot confirm the rumours – but we can ask people to be more considerate of others when they’re going through pain.
