Breakups and divorces are quite common in the entertainment industry. After a few months of not hearing about Jacquelin Ch’ng (莊鍶敏)’s divorce, we finally have some updates.
Datuk Bill Ch’ng Chong Poh’s daughter married her Taiwanese-bubble-tea-shop-owner-ex-husband, Brian Yang (杨秉逸), in March 2020 in a low-key manner but got divorced in November 2022 just after two and a half years of marriage. In a recent interview with HK01, the actress mentioned quite a few things that led to the separation.
The model admitted that she used to be impulsive, stubborn and short-tempered, which used to irk her ex-husband. The ex-couple tied the knot in a flash just less than a year after getting to know each other during the COVID-19 pandemic. Because they lived in different countries and far from each other, their different views on things drove them apart.
The 43-year-old reflected on why her marriage suffered and she attributed a large chunk of it to different political views. She explained in the interview, “When looking for someone to be with in the long run, the most important thing is to have aligned ideologies and values. In my previous marriage, because our beliefs were not aligned, it led to a lot of conflicts.”
It seems that the short timeline of their relationship, compounded by living in different countries and holding different political views, had ultimately resulted in their marriage’s downfall. Jacquelin’s experience highlights the importance of understanding a partner’s values and beliefs before making long-term commitments.
