We’d often hear foreigners praise Malaysia for our malls, people and even bus stations and most of the time, locals would agree with these claims although there have been a few cases where Malaysians don’t quite understand what was there to be praised about.
This recent incident, however, had locals torn about our public transportation after a German citizen criticised it for not being tourist-friendly. Here’s what they said after being kicked out of a bus:
A couple of days ago, a TikToker known as BIG LADDO posted a video on his channel of an incident he witnessed first-hand. In the video, a group of tourists from Germany were kicked out of a RapidKL bus in an unspecified location. The content creator then interviewed the man in the group where he explained what exactly happened.
In his explanation, the foreigner said that they were waiting for the bus at that specific bus stop. However, they were disappointed to learn that they were not allowed on the bus without a Touch ‘N Go card. “There was no information on how to pay for the bus and the bus driver told us that we couldn’t go in so we’re stuck here now,” said the man in white.
When asked where the group was heading, the man answered that they were going back to the city centre. He also added that it would’ve been easier for them and other tourists if there had been more information on the use and payment of public transportation in Malaysia on the bus stop signage. “It’s also quite uncomfortable to wait for the bus here so perhaps they could prepare a proper shelter and seats for people to wait here”.
After the TikTok post went viral, netizens started discussing the issue. Some said that the tourists should’ve done their research before travelling while others believed that a point was made that Malaysia’s public transportation should have a cash payment option as well for foreigners and locals who may not have a TnG card on them at the time.
