Malaysia is home to many shopping malls – and in the greater Klang Valley region alone, there are almost 200 malls and complexes. Since there are so many malls in the area, one might wonder which mall is the best.
Twitter user Slainthayer recently shared his personal ranking for the best malls in the greater Klang Valley region. According to the Malaysian, he visited 175 malls in Kuala Lumpur, specific parts of Selangor, Putrajaya, Seremban and Port Dickson. The user ranked all the malls based on an S to F ranking – and here is how he categorises the tiers:
- S tier: The best mall. A go-to mall for everyone, locals and tourists.
- A tier: The best regional mall. A go-to mall for locals within a 10km radius.
- B tier: A decent regional mall or a good neighbourhood mall. The go-to mall for locals within a 2km radius.
- C tier: An okay mall. The default ranking for a mall that doesn’t stand out.
- D tier: A bad mall. Either something is missing or wrong with the mall.
- E tier: A mall that is “too timid to live, but unwilling to die”.
- F tier: A dead mall at the “I’m surprised there are still shops here” level
Based on his grading system, Slainthayer ranked 1Utama Shopping Mall, The Exchange TRX, Sunway Pyramid, Mid Valley Megamall, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and Suria KLCC as the best malls in the Greater Klang Valley region, or S-tier malls. Some notable mentions in the A-tier are IOI City Mall, The Gardens Mall, MyTown Shopping Centre and NU Sentral.
On the opposite side of the ranking, the Twitter user named eight local malls in the F tier. The malls are 1 Shamelin Mall, Cheras Sentral Mall, Endah Parade, Evolve Concept Mall, Glo Damansara, Shaftsbury Putrajaya, Space U8 and Viva Mall. Glo Damansara and Space U8 even went viral on social media after visitors shared images from the inside, showcasing the near-deserted state of the malls.
Unfortunately, the Twitter user did not share why he ranked each mall at the respective tiers – but understandably so, given how many malls there are to list. While some agreed with his tier list, some said certain malls should be ranked differently – but what do you think about this ranking?
