Whether we like to admit it or not, there are too many malls in the Klang Valley. And having a surplus of malls means that some malls will be left “dead” and barely surviving with only a handful of patrons and tenants.
Unfortunately for GLO Damansara, they are one of those barely surviving malls. In a recent TikTok video, the mall looked practically empty, with only a few stores open and a handful of visitors. The video by @/oyadaysi shows the inside of the Damansara mall, where two shops and a pop-up store are the only ones operating.

The video was re-shared on Instagram by user rizalhakimm, who wrote in the caption, “GLO Damansara Mall. Another shopping mall that seems to be struggling to survive.” Rizal added that the area houses tons of other malls more favoured by the public, like IKEA Damansara, IPC Shopping Centre and Starling Mall. He also mentioned several more popular malls not far from the area, like Sunway Pyramid and Tropicana Gardens Mall.
The empty mall piqued the interest of netizens, many of whom believed the “dead mall” issue stems from the overwhelming number of malls in the Klang Valley. Others say that people are more keen on outside activities and prefer online shopping instead. A few also urged developers to stop building malls because they will only add to the problem. As for the current empty lot, some suggested a second life for the mall, saying it could turn into an office space or an education centre.
What do you think about this too many mall issue? Do you think GLO should open a Suki-ya branch to help revive their business?
