There is a reason why women-only coaches on the MRT exist. Last year, a pervert was caught taking photos of female passengers’ legs on the MRT and prior to that, another man pretended to be on his phone after a woman exposed him for secretly taking a video of her. Thankfully these men were caught and called out on social media.
It looks like another one has joined the list.
A netizen, only known as Faris, posted a thread on Twitter detailing an incident of how his girlfriend was secretly being filmed by a suspicious man on the MRT. The incident took place on 13th February during the train ride from MRT Bukit Bintang to MRT Bandar Utama station. The couple noticed a strange man and suspected that he was taking photos of the young woman.

Uneasy, they decided to sit elsewhere. Both the couple and the middle-aged man got off at the same station and while the alleged pervert was reloading his Touch ‘n Go card, the young man confronted him. With the help of the MRT staff, Faris got a hold of the man’s phone and much to his horror, there were photos of his girlfriend and inappropriate photos of other women. The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) were then contacted to investigate the matter.
The offender tried to apologise for his actions but unfortunately for him, the victim’s boyfriend was not having it. When questioned by the police, the man explained that he was laid off from work and was not in the right mental state of mind. The case was then officially reported at Mutiara Damansara police station. Unfortunately for the couple, the case could not proceed further due to lack of motive.
“I figured that the next best alternative was to delete the photos from his phone. I thoroughly checked his phone for where he could potentially hide more photos. My girlfriend also took the opportunity to lash out at the guy,” Faris wrote. During the inspection, the Twitter user also discovered that the 49-year-old married perpetrator, who is also a father, has pornographic materials on his Telegram app.

The man tried apologising again but they were not about to let this slide so easily. After checking his phone, the couple left the station and were told that PDRM would conduct further investigation. The post went viral with netizens praising the young man for protecting his girlfriend from the predator. Others were furious that someone who is married with kids, would still behave in such a manner.
Although the offender did not receive immediate punishment from the authorities, his details have been put into PDRM’s system, according to the Twitter user. So if police were to receive a similar complaint about the same man, he would be properly dealt with.
