In Chinese wedding culture, a dowry is presented as a symbol of wealth and prosperity. It’s also used to provide blessings and well wishes for a marriage. Typically, the dowry you see at a wedding are symbolic items with the occasional golden jewellery – but this Chinese bride’s dowry got netizens’ in shock over the extravagance.
A video of a wedding recently went viral on Chinese social media for being ultra-luxurious. The wedding reportedly happened in Luyi County, east of the Henan province. In the video, the bride stood by a building, dressed in a traditional red Chinese wedding garment. However, completing her look was a shocking number of gold accessories on her head and hands.
The bride was also surrounded by four other people who held up signs, reportedly the dowries for the wedding. Like her golden accessories, the dowry was equally as impressive. The list of the dowries included:
- Real estate in Shenzhen
- Multi-storey villa
- 9.99 million yuan (approximately RM6.65 million) in cash
- Ferrari
In addition to the luxurious dowry and eye-catching wedding garb, the wedding boasted an impressive motorcade with luxury cars. The motorcade included a Rolls-Royce at the front and a series of Lamborghinis and Ferraris. Netizens reacted to the wedding and were in awe of the entire ceremony. However, some questioned how the bride could afford such expensive dowries.
According to netizens, the bride is an entrepreneur and paid for all the dowry for her wedding. Netizens revealed that she came from a family of farmers. She found success after starting a beauty company. While there are rumours that the groom is from a wealthy family, many netizens are still impressed that the bride could afford the lavish dowry with her own hard-earned money.
While some may say it’s too much, the bride’s lavish wedding is proof of her hard work – but what do you think about the expensive dowries?
