Internet celebrity Bryan Wee’s content isn’t always everyone’s cup of tea, as evident by the reactions to his various videos, be it a blowjob demonstration, parodies, or just his cross-dress outfits. And unfortunately, it seems he’s upset someone else again, this time, over his recent CNY video.
This CNY, Bryan Wee teamed up with his friends and fellow content creators Xiao Honey (小哈尼) aka Deacon Chai (迪肯), “Malaysian Wang Leehom (大马王力宏)” Kiang Jau Sang (江昭上), and YBB (楊虹玲) to film a CNY song and MV. However, one uncle criticised them over it, claiming it was disrespectful to the festival.
The video itself catches many off-guard from the on-set as it flaunts Deacon, Bryan and Jau Sang in cheongsams, with YBB completing the set. With a catchy tune and expressive lyrics, most netizens have fallen in love with the song and MV and have been praising the quartet. But, one uncle in particular was not as happy.
He recently took to his socials to criticise them for the song, claiming it was disrespectful to the Lunar New Year. “Are you (going) crazy trying to create a topic? If you don’t know how to be respectful, please don’t use a New Year Song (for this)…” he reportedly said. “A good New Year’s song, they’ve ruined it like this!” The uncle also claimed the guys cross-dressed “just to be popular“.
While some netizens have voiced their support for the uncle’s opinion, others think his constant cursing isn’t helping his case, even deeming it “more indecent” than the video. Jau Sang responded to the video by acting out a ‘threat’ the uncle had made to splash water on them while Bryan got his own back by editing the uncle’s video with his own rude responses included.
Well, Bryan Wee, “Malaysian Wang Leehom” Kiang Jau Sang and Xiao Honey (小哈尼) aren’t the type to let insults and criticisms affect them, so it’s no surprise that they’re letting this one roll off their backs. Currently, the group are still basking in the release of their song without any signs of remorse.
They’ve certainly come up with an off-the-wall Chinese New Year song this year, but we can’t deny its catchiness! What do you guys think? Is the song by Bryan Wee and friends an affront to CNY? Or is it perfect for the season?
