Unfortunately, sexual harassment cases are so rampant these days that even men aren’t safe. While women calling out perverts on the train isn’t uncommon, this netizen is warning men to be just as vigilant after saving a young male from getting harassed by a stranger on the LRT Kelana Jaya line.
According to Twitter user @/Sheyy_Tan, he was on an LRT coach along the Kelana Jaya line when he noticed a young boy getting harassed by a strange man. The boy had a skinny build, standing at around 150cm and seemed terrified of the harasser, who the man claimed was “on drugs”. The Twitter user immediately approached the man and urged the boy to stay by his side. However, the strange man followed them as they stood together in the train.
The man noted that the incident happened during peak hours, as many passengers were getting on the train. He was initially relieved when he noticed the harasser getting off the train, but it was merely a trick as the man quickly got back on the train. Finally, the man was caught by the auxiliary police at LRT Abdullah Hukum when he attempted the same trick but failed due to the crowd. Thankfully, the boy got down safely at LRT Pasar Seni.
In a response to another Twitter user, the man revealed more details about the stranger. According to the tweet, the man is skinny with reddish-brown hair and wears a black jacket and face mask. The netizen noted that the man seemed disorderly and would stare at and approach men on the LRT on the Kelana Jaya line, especially at the Kerinchi, Abdullah Hukum and Pasar Seni stations.
Netizens have reacted to the tweets, sharing their concern about safety on the train and urging others to keep alert. Many also thanked the man and his friend for looking out for the younger male. One man also shared his personal experience of getting sexually harassed on the train, noting that harassment is very traumatising, even for men.
Good job on the man for stepping up and helping the young male from getting harassed. If you see the same man – or any other individual harassing others on the train – please immediately alert the auxiliary police or draw attention to the individual.
Previously, another guy shared his traumatising experience when an uncle approached him at Pasar Seni MRT, pretending to ask for direction but later sexually harassed him.
