Back in June, South Korean footballer Hwang Ui Jo (황의조) got caught up in a shocking sex scandal involving several women. The athlete was accused of cheating, emotionally abusing his partners, and even secretly filming their intimate moments without consent. However, it seems that more shocking information has come out.
The case first caught wind after a woman, who claimed to be one of Hwang Ui Jo’s ex-girlfriends, had leaked his sex tapes onto social media. However, police have recently revealed that the woman was his sister-in-law, who works closely with the athlete as a manager. News reports said she would assist Hwang Ui Jo and his brother during overseas business trips.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, the woman was arrested and is currently under investigation for suspicion of posting content exposing Hwang Ui Jo’s private life and blackmail. Authorities are also investigating her motive for distributing the videos and making threats to the South Korean footballer.
Meanwhile, the athlete’s alleged illegal filming of a sexual act is also being investigated. Hwang Ui Jo has denied all allegations, adding that he filmed the video with the consent of the woman in the video, adding that she had also seen the footage. His statement also revealed that the woman in the video was a public figure who is now married and is active in the broadcasting industry. However, this brought more criticism from netizens who condemned him for exposing the woman’s personal information.
The 31-year-old had also previously announced that he would sue the poster of his private video for defamation and blackmail but has since retracted the charges. The case is ongoing, but Hwang Ui Jo continues to appear in football matches, including the most recent World Cup qualifier against China.
