Earlier in March, Malaysian supermodel Amber Chia (谢丽萍) revealed through her Instagram that she had separated from her businessman husband, Adrian Wong. Despite the shocking revelation, the model kept mum about the divorce until a recent interview where the public figure opened up about what happened in the relationship.
Amber and Adrian tied the knot in 2010 and had their son Ashton in the same year. However, the supermodel surprised the public when she said she has been “single for two and a half years”, indirectly revealing the two separated around 2021-2022. According to the public figure, she didn’t disclose the news out of respect for her son but added that she remained on good terms with her ex.
However, in a recent interview with China Press, Amber said the two have had a rough marriage for several years. The 43-year-old said she and Adrian have different views, which resulted in arguments. Amber also said they rarely talk to each other and naturally became estranged. She added that there was even a time when the two didn’t want to see each other because they would always end up quarrelling.
Amber admitted she had thought about divorce for quite some time but wanted to work on the marriage for her son’s sake. However, after repeated arguments with her husband, the SHERO founder candidly asked her son if he would be okay with his parents divorcing. The family then spent a long time communicating, hoping their son would understand. Amber said, “I also explained to him that no matter what relationship we (her and Adrian) had, he will always be our son, and we will always love him unconditionally.”
As for Amber and Adrian’s current relationship, the public figure said they are now on friendly terms. The two met up in March during Adrian’s 50th birthday party, where they finally opened up to each other. Amber said the conversation made them realise they had finally let go of the past and can now move on. She added, “Although we can’t stay together forever, we can still be friends. It also means we can continue to pursue what we want and be better versions of ourselves.”
While divorce isn’t always easy, it may be the best decision. We wish Amber and Adrian the best as they live their separate lives.
