BLACKPINK (블랙핑크) member Lisa (리사) has earned quite the backlash following her controversial Crazy Horse performance – and it seems it’s affecting her image with a few luxury brands.
Following the deletion of her official Weibo page, netizens have also noticed that luxury brands CELINE and Bulgari have also taken down images of the idol from their Weibo and Instagram accounts. Lisa is the global brand ambassador for both brands, previously featured on multiple brand campaigns and events – but her individual images no longer appear on the luxury brands’ Weibo accounts.
Korean news outlets have previously reported that the K-pop idol’s official Weibo page was deleted because of her controversial performance. The star’s appearance at the Parisian cabaret was heavily criticised by the public, particularly in China, where strict rules were put in place over celebrities. Netizens alleged that the deletion of her Weibo page and the individual brand campaign images was due to Lisa violating the rules with her Crazy Horse show.
A scroll through CELINE’s global Instagram account shows that Lisa is still part of the social page, but the same images are unavailable on the luxury brand’s Weibo account. Bulgari CEO Jean-Christophe Babin has also taken down his photos of the Thai-born star from his Instagram account, earning him criticism from Lisa’s fans but praise from her critics.
However, Lisa’s sudden disappearance from the brands’ socials could be due to the expiration of her contracts. It was also reported that the BLACKPINK member would not renew her contract with YG Entertainment, thus possibly affecting her contracts with the luxury brands she currently endorses.
There have been no official statements from Lisa, CELINE, or Bvlgari regarding the matter as of writing – but do you think it’s because of the performance or just contract expiry?
