Behind-the-scene footage is always a treasure. And netizens were delighted to see this particular gem from the 2011 film “Shaolin (新少林寺)”, starring Andy Lau (刘德华) and Jackie Chan (陈港生/成龙).
It’s been over a decade since “Shaolin” was released, yet it’s still a favoured film among fans. But recently, an old video showing some behind-the-scene footage of Andy Lau and Jackie Chan has gone viral, after it showed Jackie jokingly dissing Andy.
The video, taken during what looked like a script reading session, showed Jackie Chan running through his lines with Andy Lau and the late director Benny Chan (陈木胜). After finishing his part, he glanced up at Benny with a grin and joked, “(Shall we do it in ) one take?” to which Benny laughed.
Of course, Jackie wasn’t going to leave Andy out of the fun. Sobering up, he turned to Andy and gestured at him with the script. “Yesterday, after you left, I did four to five more takes. (Yet), you still have no respect for me,” he pretended to scoff.
However, Andy had the perfect response to Jackie’s jab. “That’s not it,” he corrected calmly. “He (Benny) has low expectations for me.” It made Jackie chuckle while Andy grinned along, knowing Jackie had only been teasing him.
It’s no secret that Jackie Chan has always demanded perfection in his scenes, hence his insistence on doing several retakes. Andy Lau, on the other hand, is not an martial arts actor, which usually gives him some leeway with the director.
Well, it’s certainly adorable to see the two legends teasing each other on set, especially during such an iconic film! Even till this day, “Shaolin” is very much favoured among fans, and it’s easy to see why. Watch the clip here:
