J-rock fans mourn the death of legendary vocalist Atsushi Sakurai (櫻井 敦司) at age 57. The cause of death for the BUCK-TICK (バクチク) frontman was a brainstem haemorrhage.
The news of his death was announced on 24th October but it was revealed that Atsushi had passed away on 19th October after suffering health issues during a BUCK-TICK concert in Yokohama, Japan. The concert was cut short so Atsushi could be taken to the hospital for treatment but, unfortunately, the musician did not survive and he passed away later that evening.
Fellow entertainers and fans were shocked by the news of the death, sharing their grievances on social media. The Japanese rock band debuted in 1983 and is considered one of the founders of the Japanese visual kei movement. Musicians SUGIZO (スギゾー) and Nishikawa Takanori (西川 貴教) both send their condolences, noting that the late vocalist was a kind person who treated his peers with respect. THE BONEZ bassist T$UYO$HI (ツヨシ) was also saddened by the news, saying that Atsushi was one of his biggest music inspirations.
According to BUCK-TICK’s agency, Banker Ltd, the funeral for the late vocalist has been completed and was attended by family members. The agency also announced that they are working on holding a memorial service for fans and extended their gratitude to those who have supported the singer until his untimely death. Before Atsushi’s death, BUCK-TICK was embarking on a concert tour but all future tour dates have since been canceled.
