Many Malaysians are known for being cat lovers – so it’s no surprise that netizens will be furious to see an innocent stray cat get abused by cruel humans.
In a now-viral Twitter thread, user @/twttaca shared that she found a stray cat at her university campus with spray paint on its body. The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) student expressed her anger at what happened to the cat, saying, “I’m fed up with humans. The cat was doing fine, but you went and painted it.”
@hypemalaysia Netizens were furious over this poor stray cat found covered in purple spray paint.
The tweet also included a video of the cat peacefully grooming its fur despite being covered in large spots of purple. The IIUM student then shared that the cat was taken to the vet the following day for a checkup on its health and well-being. According to a follow-up tweet, the cat had to be shaven to remove the damaged fur, revealing that the paint also had stained its skin. The cat’s tongue was also stained purple, probably from grooming. The attending veterinarian also suggested that the cat get neutered for its safety.
Overall, the veterinary trip resulted in a bill of over RM300, which was paid for by some kind-hearted netizens. The cat, nicknamed Keladi (yam in Malay), is now treated and safely recovering at the clinic, where it will stay for a couple more days before it can leave. The culprit behind the abuse has yet to be identified. In a tweet thanking netizens for helping with Keladi’s vet bills, the student condemned the culprit for their actions, saying that it had caused so much trouble for the cat and many others.
The thread and Keladi’s situation received many reactions, with many cat lovers showing sympathy for what happened to the four-legged creature. Many were furious that someone would spray paint an innocent cat, saying they needed to be punished for their inhumane actions. Many also thanked the university student for helping the cat and even getting it to a vet.
Thankfully Keladi was saved before anything worse happened – but we hope the culprit will be caught and punished for what they did to the poor cat.
