As it turns out, despite her sweet demeanour shown in the Miss Hong Kong 2023 (香港小姐競選) pageant, participant Zora Chen (陈怡名) is not one to take things lying down. Previously, she got into a spat with netizens over some perceived “rude” remarks.
Well, it didn’t take long for her to retaliate, especially after the Miss Hong Kong 2023 pageant officially ended. However, Zora has graciously decided to give netizens a chance to understand her point of view with a Q&A session on her Instagram. Needless to say, her answers were still feisty!
Since the end of the pageant, Zora Chen has been free to speak her mind without conforming to the pristine Miss Hong Kong image. Netizens certainly love her blunt honesty and have been seeking more of her frankness with a few choice questions via her Q&A session held on 3rd September on her Instagram Story.
Some questions were innocent and bore genuine curiosity, like this netizen who asked who she had been close to in the pageant. “We all know each other quite well. I roomed with Debbie Leung, Mrs. Wang and Lynn. I was close with Hanna from the beginning, Cindy helped me correct my Cantonese during recordings and everyone else would also play (around) and chat with me,” Zora shared.
Another asked: “Why did you participate in the pageant?” and Zora’s answer was definitely left us curious. “The reason is very childish. I don’t want to talk about it, it’s embarrassing,” she admitted bashfully. One even questioned what she had gained from the pageant, to which she responded: “I can’t think of anything at the moment, but I lost four pairs of sunglasses while running around.”
Unfortunately, not everyone was as nice. A few took the opportunity to bash her, which Zora didn’t let slide without a fight. One poked at her inability to speak Cantonese and write traditional Chinese. “You even laughed at the fact that you’re a finalist; it doesn’t matter how beautiful you are, it’s useless. (Even) if you got into the top three, TVB will stop you, you know?” they wrote.
However, Zora’s retort caught many off-guard. “Not everyone wants to be in the top three, you know?” she clapped back. “(And) you don’t need to know how to convert traditional Chinese characters with one click.” As for the line, “it doesn’t matter how beautiful you are“, Zora only had this to say: “(I’m) beautiful enough, thank you.”
As for the one person who simply wrote the word “trash“, she answered: “Please ask questions, don’t introduce yourself.” Still, they weren’t all bad. Zora did get the chance to talk about her future plans, saying that she had been invited to a few auditions and that she was hoping to do a martial arts scene one day. “The villain with unrivaled martial arts beats up the haters,” she joked.
Well, Zora Chen is still clearly ready and willing to standup for herself, even more so after the Miss Hong Kong 2023 pageant. On our end, we hope to see Zora on screen soon!
