The Miss Hong Kong 2023 (香港小姐競選) finals are drawing near, and every vote counts. But we aren’t certain how things will be playing out for Zora Chen (陈怡名) after her latest upset.
Earlier this month, Zora Chen accidentally got into an argument with netizens after a careless comment on a Miss Hong Kong post. At the time, she had remained staunchly certain about her stance, but, things have apparently changed as she recently wiped her Instagram!
Just last month, the girls went to Vietnam to film Miss Hong Kong, and of course, the social media staff members had plenty of fun with the girls. One of them included teasing Zora while she was eating. However, upon viewing the clip for herself, Zora responded with: “It’s so ugly, thank you.” Unfortunately, netizens weren’t happy with her response.
One reprimanded her for not using “traditional characters” to type out her response while another mocked her for “not using a filter”. Her subsequent responses deemed her “rude” and “having low EQ”. Zora later explained that she hadn’t been upset about the footage. She also denied being afraid of netizens’ retaliation. But, it seems things have changed since.
Her Instagram account has apparently been wiped of all posts after days of being bombarded by netizens. The only feature she’s currently using is her Instagram Story, in which she recently shared a conversation she had with her friend about the incident. “What should I do?” she apparently asked, only to receive the reply: “Whatever you do, (they) will say it is your fault. Don’t prove yourself.”
Miss Hong Kong officials have apparently washed their hands of the issue, claiming they have warned the girls to “take care of their own image” during the pageant. “We can’t control (how they interact and message netizens) on IG,” they reportedly stated.
Regardless, it certainly seems as though Zora Chen is currently in dire straits, despite having made it to the final stretch of Miss Hong Kong. All we can do now is wish her all the best for the competition.
