We’ve seen some heartwarming stories about food delivery riders over the years but also came across some not-so-savoury stories about them. Unfortunately, the Grab rider in this story falls into the latter category – because of what he did after getting caught running a red light.
Twitter user @/Magnafiq shared a short dashcam footage of the incident where the rider was caught showing the middle finger to the user, who was driving at the time. The rider had run a red light and slipped in front of the car, causing the user to honk at him. While the user did not state where the incident happened, one netizen suspected it was near KL East Mall.
After the tweet went viral, many netizens shared their reaction to the incident, with most condemning the rider’s actions of violating traffic laws and showing the rude gesture. Some netizens said the incident is unfortunately common as many other riders have violated traffic laws while on duty. As the incident followed the news of a Grab rider’s unfair suspension, many shared that this rider should face termination for his actions.
Grab Malaysia has also responded to the tweet with two separate statements. The company first urged the user to lodge a report via the MYJPJ app so that authorities can take lawful action. However, in the second statement, the company states that the incident has been shared with their team and disciplinary action will be taken accordingly by their end.
While we’re not sure who will do it, we hope the rider receives an apt punishment for his action. As for other riders, let’s hope they use this incident to be more careful on the road.
